“Voters believe in a sovereign Europe more that elites” according to Politico.eu, citing the Spring 2025 Eurobarometer poll, which found that 81% of Europeans “are for a common defence and security policy among EU Member States – the highest result since 2004”.

It seems we at Together for Europe are far from alone in believing that European federalism is a necessity. A clear majority of Europeans favor a federal solution, at least in the realm of defense—a sentiment that cuts across national boundaries. This trend also reflects a growing disconnect between European publics and the United States. Notably, this appears to be the first time that public opinion in Europe is more openly federalist than the political elites.
This is precisely our goal: to persuade majorities of the peoples of Europe that their future and their democratic governance depend on a federal Europe—regardless of the reluctance of European leaders to embrace this path.
Faced with both the threat of Russian aggression and uncertainty over the Trump administration, Europeans—unlike many of their leaders—are demanding a federal defense framework, one that would also be far less costly for individual nations.
But this is not merely a question of defense. The benefits of reimagining Europe as a federal, unitary structure extend to prosperity, stability, and democratic strength.
At Together for Europe, we are confident that as global events unfold, more and more Europeans will recognize that the only sustainable path to shared security and prosperity is through a true federal union.
